Hurricane meeting: Wayne residents encouraged to come out tonight and speak up

Wayne County residents affected by Hurricane Matthew are being encouraged to attend a public meeting on storm recovery tonight at Wayne Community College.

The meeting is being hosted by county Emergency Management Service and the North Carolina emergency management agency and will be held at 7 p.m. in Room 101 of the Walnut Building on campus.

Public involvement is vital to the development of good redevelopment strategies, officials say. The North Carolina Resilient Redevelopment Planning meeting is open to anyone interested in having a say in the development of the overall recovery plan for the county.

Hurricane Matthew was a disastrous event for many people across Wayne. If you are one of the residents who suffered damages from the storm and its aftermath flooding, you owe it to yourself to take advantage of this opportunity to help address the county's needs and strategies for redevelopment. The meeting is expected to focus on residential housing, rental property, infrastructure, jobs, the ecosystem and business and economic growth. We hope it leads to something positive.
