Home run: President sounds right notes in his speech to Congress

President Donald Trump hit a home run Tuesday night in his speech to Congress.

Sounding the most presidential he has to date, Trump painted a portrait of an America regaining its rightful place in the world that resonated with supporters and might even have caught the ear of some detractors.

It was easily Trump's best performance and reassures us that he just might have what it takes to be a statesman.

"America is once again ready to lead," Trump said in his opening remarks. He vowed to rebuild the nation's infrastructure and its military and boost business and create jobs. Trump is a salesman by nature, and on Tuesday night he was selling optimism.

It was a positive speech, one he needed to deliver as a start to unifying a nation torn apart by his election. He said his administration is taking steps to cut taxes, reduce business regulations, fight crime and secure the nation's  borders. He unabashedly said America comes first.

"My job is not to represent the world," Trump said. "My job is to represent the United States of America."

All in all, it was Trump's night to shine, and he did.
