Flynn: Resignation of adviser was only proper thing to do

Michael Flynn, the national security adviser to President Donald Trump, resigned his post this week amid reports that he misled the White House about his contacts with Russian officials, casting a shadow on the Trump administration before it is even a month old.

We believe the president did the right thing in ousting Flynn, given the concern many Americans have over Trump's association with Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin.

We shudder at the thought of cozying up to Russia. Reports that Russia interfered in the presidential election already have raised eyebrows around the country, and Trump, who apparently had lost trust in Flynn, rightly nudged him out of the administration.

We hope that from now on the White House is more circumspect in its dealings with Russia. National security is nothing to take lightly, and we hope Trump and his team have learned a valuable lesson from the incident.
