Travel ban: Trump's restrictions resound among conservative voters

President Donald Trump's call for restrictions on the entry of certain immigrants and refugees into the United States might be found to unconstitutional, and it might well boost propaganda within terrorist ranks, but it is playing well among Americans who supported him at the polls.

Trump said Monday that he wants to allow people "who love this country" into the U.S., but that he is committed to keeping out people who mean America harm. That message resounds with conservative thinkers who believe the country's borders have been allowed to become much too porous.

But Trump also said that the media are not reporting terrorist attacks and activity with the same fervor that it reports on protests and marches, and he is off base there.

Trump is, as usual, trying to make the media out to be the bad guys, and although some of the national media deserves criticism, to imply that there is a conspiracy among news outlets to rein in coverage of terrorism is simply not true.

But among Trump supporters you will find few fans of the media.
