Final tally: Special session could be McCrory's last major act

Gov. Pat McCrory has called for a Dec. 13 special session of the Legislature to decide how best to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.

It could be one of his last major acts as governor.

McCrory, a Republican who trails Democrat Roy Cooper in the popular vote from the November election, could find out today or tonight whether he has a chance at a recount of ballots.

He can ask for a recount if he is less than 10,000 votes behind Cooper in the final tally.

A review of more than 94,000 votes cast in Durham County during the early-voting period and on Election Day is expected to be completed today.

Many people have called on McCrory to give up the fight, but he has shown that he will take the issue down to the wire. We just hope that it is over soon. The state needs to know for sure who its governor is going to be.
