It's Trump: The News-Argus backs Republican for president

The decision to officially endorse a candidate for president in this election year comes after much soul-searching. Neither of the major party candidates have shown themselves to be what we would call prime presidential timber. They each carry enough baggage to raise serious questions about their qualifications to hold the nation's highest office.

But after casting ballots for many years, we have come to the realization that most major elections come down to a choice of the lesser of two evils. And under those circumstances, we choose Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton.

Why? Because we simply cannot support Clinton's left-leaning policies. She offers four more years of the same kind of leadership that President Barack Obama has given us, and we believe the country has had enough of that.

Is Trump the GOP candidate we would have selected? No. But he is the pick of the litter, for better or for worse.

The next president will be in a position to appoint at least one, maybe more, justices to the Supreme Court, and we simply cannot support Clinton in that role. Too much is at stake when you look at the decisions the court will make over the next few years and the effect those decisions will have on the course of the nation.

So, after all is said and done, it is Mr. Trump who gets our vote, and hopefully, yours.
