Fifteen years: Today we remember the events of Sept. 11, 2001

Fifteen years is not a long time when you think about it.

Especially when you have something special to remember.

And we remember well the events of Sept. 11, 2001 -- the horror of that day when America came under attack, when thousands of innocent people lost their lives in the savage events that unfolded in New York City, in Washington, D.C., and in a field in Pennsylvania.

It is our duty to keep the memories alive of that day in which our nation stood up to the evil forces that tried to break our spirit. That spirit was not broken, nor will it ever be.

Some say the great national pride that emerged following that tragic day has evaporated, that the unity that it sparked has weakened.

We don't believe that for a moment.

Despite all that has happened in the intervening years to divide this country, we believe the American spirit is as strong as ever. And should we be attacked again, the unity would return. It is part of our heritage. It is who we are.
