Restroom law: Another judge rules in favor of transgender rights

Boy, are we tired of writing about this. But we feel it cannot go without comment.

Another federal judge has ruled that transgender folks have the right to use the restroom of their choice. This one said that two students and an employee of the University of North Carolina are not bound by the state law that requires people to use the public restroom of their anatomical gender but are free to use the one that fits their gender identity.

Furthermore, U.S District Judge Thomas Schroeder said the three plaintiffs are likely to succeed if they carry their lawsuit forward and try to prove the state law unconstitutional.

State leaders said in response that they are glad that the ruling was limited to the three plaintiffs. And they reiterated the legislature and governor's argument that the state law only represents "common sense protections to keep grown men out of bathrooms and showers with women and young girls."

We think their response says it all. Unfortunately, the judge didn't see the common sense in the matter. And this issue is a long way from being settled.
