Opportunity: Acceptance speech is chance for Trump to show his depth

Donald Trump has an opportunity Thursday to show the nation that he is truly made of presidential timber.

Trump, who has been finally nominated to be the Republican Party's candidate for president, will make his acceptance speech on Thursday night. It will be the culmination of months of campaigning and a key moment in his effort to reach the White House.

Trump will likely point to the failures of the Democratic administration under President Barack Obama to stem the violence that has gripped the national conscience and to keep America first in the world.

Trump's mantra all along has been to make America great again, and he no doubt will beat the drum over his presumed opponent Hillary Clinton's inability to do that.

We hope he does more than that. We hope he delves into exactly how he plans to accomplish those goals. In the past he has been fuzzy on how he will boost American interests, both at home and abroad. Thursday night will give him the chance to spell out how he will do it and convince us he really has the "right stuff."
