Headed to court: Department of Justice's warning to state means lengthy legal battle

It should come as no surprise that the federal government has come down hard on North Carolina for adopting a law it considers to be discriminatory and in violation of people's civil rights.

The question is whether the state can withstand the pressure being applied by the United States Department of Justice, which has said the state will lose millions of dollars in federal funding unless it repeals what is known as House Bill 2, the law requiring people to use the public restroom of their anatomical gender, not their gender identity.

We told you it was not going to be an easy road.

Gov. Pat McCrory says the notification from the Department of Justice means that the issue is no longer just one involving our state, but all states. He called it an "overreach" by the Obama administration.

We also told you the issue would end up in the courts, and that is where it undoubtedly is headed, much to the dismay of level-headed taxpayers who will foot the legal bill for all this nonsense.
