Win-win: New college manufacturing center is a good idea for all involved

Wayne County is upfitting the former Bussman plant on Dixie Trail to be used by Wayne Community College as an advanced manufacturing center to train students to become the high-tech workers of tomorrow.

It is a wonderful idea and one that the county should take great pride in being a part of.

A portion of the funding for the facility would come from the $2 billion bond referendum the state will have on the ballot in March. We have already recommended voting for the bonds; this is another reason to do so.

The center is being partly built with county resources to save money. The facility is actually owned by the county Development Alliance, which also has a big stake in seeing to it that Wayne County produces the high caliber of employees that manufacturers need.

The whole concept is a win-win for the county, the college and the students who will benefit from the training, not to mention the businesses that will hire those trained workers.
