Few words: Commissioners' chairman understands less is more

Joe Daughtery, the chairman of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners, has instituted a new policy limiting the length of time commissioners can spend making comments at the end of their meetings.

We applaud his effort to streamline commissioners' meetings, which in the past have at times become long, drawn-out affairs lasting hours on end.

Commissioners can still discuss issues at length during their meetings. All Daughtery has done is limit the time commissioners have to make statements during the commissioners' comments portion of the meeting, which comes after business has been conducted.

Some -- not all -- commissioners have been a bit long-winded during this final comment period, often times becoming verbose and repetitive.

They should know that brevity makes commentary more powerful. The fewer words you use, the more impact they have.

That being said, we will close our comments.

'Nuff said.
