Mourning, again: Horror of yet another attack on innocents leaves us mystified

It makes you sad.

And it makes you wonder.

The mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, on Wednesday leaves all of us mystified.

Fourteen people dead. More than 20 wounded.

What could have been going on in the minds of the two people who committed this horrific act? Terrorism? A workplace grudge? A combination of the two?

How many more times will this nation find itself in mourning? It seems that there has been an endless string of violent acts committed by people with no conscience, no feelings for their fellow man other than hatred and anger.

It makes us wonder what is going on with our country. And the answer seems to be beyond our comprehension. We simply can't understand how this can happen, how the shootings in California, in Colorado Springs and in Charleston, S.C., and other places can happen. How someone can value human life so cheaply. Will there be no end to these seemingly random acts of violence?

Meanwhile, we mourn for those lost, for the families left devastated, for our own loss of innocence.

And now we can't help but wonder when, or where, the next one will come.
