Let's talk polls: Keep your eyes on them for fun, but they are not all true measures

There's an old saying: You can make numbers say anything you want them to say.

And while the polls that are already hitting the newspapers and airwaves about the upcoming presidential election are interesting, for now, they are really more about amusement than prognostication.

In other words, don't make a choice based on any one poll's findings. It is way too early.

The bottom line is that some polls are skewed and not representative of what the pulse of the community really is. They might suggest a trend, but not a definitive measure.

Some of that is because of the questions and some of it is because of the sample sizes.

But rest assured there is no one definitive poll right now that has the answer as to how the American public feels about any candidate.

If you are going to listen, look at the aggregate -- how many polls are saying what and what is the trend? That could give you a clue on what to expect and whom to believe.

There are some interesting comments coming out right now about all the candidates -- and some even more interesting trends in support.

But, for now, just enjoy the show. There is still a long way to go and you know how polls go.

They can change with the wind.
