Give a gift: Tickets to annual wine night help teach neighbors to read

The best times are when you get the chance to enjoy a wonderful evening and you can help someone else in the process.

And that is exactly what will happen if you purchase a ticket to this year's Reading Between the Wines event, which is set for Sept. 12.

The event itself is a chance to spend an evening with New York Times bestselling author John Hart and renowned local poet Lenard Moore.

In addition, the event offers a tour of the beautiful home of David and Bethany Perry and the chance to enjoy gourmet hors d'oeuvres from two of the stars of the local restaurant scene, Ed's Southern Food and Spirits and Chef Herb's Bistro. Local cooks also will contribute other delectable offerings.

But the stars of the evening will certainly be the wines choices carefully selected by local experts Bob and Susan Crenshaw of HealtHabit.

Not into wine? Don't worry, there will be non-alcoholic beverages available, too.

But even though the evening will be spectacular, the purpose makes it even more special.

The money raised will be used to help fund Literacy Connections' efforts to share the gift of reading with local residents.

The stories are endless -- and touching. It is amazing what the tutors and the students give each other. The instruction changes their lives.

And you could be a part of making it happen.

The event is very popular, and the tickets are going fast. But you still have time to be a part of this great event.

Stop by the county library to pick up yours.

You will definitely be making a difference -- and will enjoy a not-to-be-missed evening at the same time.
