Power couple: New investigations chief is right; police need city's help

The Goldsboro Police Department's new investigations chief nailed it.

His goal is to connect the community and the police -- and for both to join in fighting crime.

One can't do it without the other, Maj. Anthony Carmon says.

And he is right.

If Goldsboro residents -- black and white -- want to see crime diminish in the city and in their neighborhoods, they have to step up, too.

Tips to police about impending crimes, as well as identification of suspects in crimes that have already been committed, are critical to reducing the number of victims of everything from thefts and drugs to murder.

And why not? Isn't it high time to take the city back and to put an end -- or at least substantially reduce -- the number of victims each year?

That can only happen if the community joins forces with the police to get the job done.

It might seem like a risk, but let's face it, crime hits everywhere. There is more of a risk in doing nothing.
