Join the fight: Don't forget to put Relay for Life into your plans

It is easy to get blinded by the roar of the Thunderbirds and the excitement of the county's first air show in a number of years.

But there is another big event this week -- and one that deserves the community's support.

Relay for Life has been around for decades in Wayne County -- and the hundreds of volunteers and thousands of participants have been a part of raising millions of dollars for cancer research.

The goal, of course, is to make future Relays unnecessary by finding a cure.

The event is about celebrating -- honoring those who have survived the disease and cheering on those who are still fighting.

But there is also a chance to remember those who have passed -- a moment that is one of the most touching you will ever see anywhere.

The best part about Relay is that it is a family affair. Local teams set up booths to raise money for the fight -- and there is everything from games and food to crafts and giveaways.

In other words, there is something for everyone.

So, we all know it is going to be a busy weekend, especially if your family will also have a graduate in this week's Wayne Community College ceremonies.

But you have to eat Friday.

So come on down to the Wayne County Fairgrounds and join in on the fun. You can have a nice meal, enjoy some fellowship and do your part in the fight against cancer.

And we guarantee, you just might meet someone whose story will touch your life. That is exactly the kind of event it is.
