One week later: College moves forward after horrifying week

The ordeal is not over for the young men and women who attend Wayne Community College.

And it is going to be an even more distinct presence for those who work there.

Kenneth Stancil will be in court again -- and there will likely be more said in the coming weeks about the suspect and his interaction with the victim, Ron Lane.

And none of the testimony or the exchanges coming in court are likely to be pleasant to hear -- or to remember.

But today, one week after the first news broke that a man had taken a gun on their campus, students and faculty are back in class and at work.

The object now is to figure out how to move on.

And what is so special about the people who work and learn at WCC is that they will find a way.

Many of them are non-traditional students and others who are working hard to get an education -- sometimes while facing real challenges like managing full-time jobs and families.

They are tough. And this will only make them tougher.

The best way to stamp out the evil that occurred at the college last Monday is to make sure that the students continue their quest -- and succeed.

We have no doubt that is exactly what will happen.
