What's next? It's time to speak up, not just to sit back and watch.

We often remind people that they have a say in what happens in their communities and their neighborhoods.

We tell them that their representatives, local, state and national, really do listen.

And we often point out how something as simple as a phone call can change the course of a community -- or put a criminal in jail.

But they often don't believe us.

So it is time to remind everyone again that sometimes all it takes to put an end to something you disagree with -- or to push for a project you feel strongly about -- is the courage to have your say.

It is surprising often how many people agree with those who speak their mind about the future of their city and county on this page. Sometimes all it takes to get a job done is to realize just how many people feel the same way you do -- and then to communicate those feelings to the men and women who represent you.

Believe it or not -- they listen.

Now is a critical time for Wayne County and Goldsboro. There are issues to be considered and projects to support.

This is a great time to let your elected representatives know what you think of the job they are doing -- and what you would like to see happen next.

That's how we can shape our own future.
