Open heart: Just one more story of those who inspire others

You can see it in Martie Saylors' face when she looks at one of her students.

Her job is about more than just physical therapy -- it is about love.

And the Exceptional Children Teacher of Excellence is right -- there are many more like her whose hearts open every day to the children they teach. Even though those teachers would likely tell you the children make that easy.

But that doesn't mean that Mrs. Saylors is not an inspiration -- both because of how she does her job, but also because of the voice she provides for the parents and children she serves.

She fights for them as if they were her own -- because they are.

And that is why it must have been easy to pick her to be one of the state's top educators.

There are hundreds of stories like this every day in Wayne County Public Schools -- some of which you might never hear. And all of them are the evidence that teachers matter in the lives of students.

We are just lucky that so many special teachers like Mrs. Saylors have picked Wayne County for their home.
