Good news: Another day, another announcement. Let's be positive.

When there is good economic news in a community, it is easy to catch yourself waiting for the other shoe to fall.

But in Goldsboro in the last 12 months -- and really all over Wayne County -- there has been a good bit of good news.

And it does not look like it is going to stop coming anytime soon.

So, isn't it time the rest of us start to believe it?

The bottom line is, companies with a national profile simply do not just throw up new stores because they have extra money lying around. They research; they analyze; and then they choose the spot with the most potential for profit. Because, frankly, they are in business to make a profit.

And we are that profitable spot.

Add to that some encouraging news on the jobs front and relatively little bad news on the unemployment front -- as well as a leadership and legislature that seem to get that to grow a state, you have to make it attractive to investors -- and you have a recipe for a pretty bright future.

And when you combine that with a healthy respect for taxpayers' pocketbooks, there is even more reason to see roses ahead.

The continuing drop in gas prices hasn't hurt either, with some analysts predicting huge booms in auto sales this year.

So maybe we should not wait for the other shoe to fall. Maybe this is a sign that Goldsboro is ready for a boom -- and is in the process of accomplishing that increase right now.

It is a reason to be optimistic and to make sure we take the steps to keep this area healthy for many years into the future.
