Time to give: As you wrap up 2014, remember your local charities

As 2014 ends, many local residents search for places to get a last-minute deduction.

And this year, there will be plenty of people looking to give away clothes, household items -- anything they no longer need.

And if you are one of those last-minute scramblers, think about your local organizations when you are making plans to donate this year.

From the Wayne County Humane Society to the Community Soup Kitchen, there are plenty of places that could put those dollars to good use.

And while donating to national organizations is also a worthy endeavor, wouldn't it be even better to see your dollars used to help your neighbors?

And don't forget to take your household goods to the Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity. Both organizations will put them to good use.

The end of the year is a time to think back about the good and the bad. What better way to start fresh than to get rid of the old while helping someone else start anew.
