Good works: Riders' effort a model for making a difference

The motorcyclists who gathered up a bunch of toys and headed out to the Green Acres housing project on Christmas Eve did more than just hand out gifts to needy children.

They set an example -- for their children and the young people they helped -- of what a man really is.

It is not someone with a gun or a tough guy with a gang affiliation or even a drug dealer.

A real man is someone who holds a job, takes care of his family, helps others and gives of himself.

And he does all of that while still being "cool" on his motorcycle.

These men -- and the children who helped them -- should be commended. They offered an example of what can be done to change futures and attitudes -- one good deed at a time.
