Information: Money and research not all that we need to win cancer battle

The money that is raised every year to benefit cancer patients and to fund research is important. It is how we will one day put an end to this dread disease.

But what is equally important -- and often forgotten -- is how much good information can do.

People who know about the signs of skin cancer, those who understand the need for regular self-exams and mammograms, and those who understand the risk factors are already armed with information they need to beat cancer or to stop it from happening in the first place.

That is why educational efforts like the Wayne Memorial Hospital program on prostate and breast cancer are so important.

Keeping up on the latest treatments as well as advances in detection and the progress toward a cure is important for every single person in Wayne County.

Money and research will get us to the cure. Information might just save a life.
