A winner: Miss North Carolina represented her state, community with class

So, Miss North Carolina, and Goldsboro native, Beth Stovall did not bring home the crown and sash from the Miss America Pageant.

And although we are sad for her, we should be nothing but proud of how this young woman represented herself and her community.

From the moment she was crowned as Miss North Carolina, Miss Stovall has been a gracious winner, willing to share her time and her energy with the community that supported her.

She might have been Miss Greater Sampson County officially, but she was in many Goldsboro residents' thoughts this weekend.

It is not easy competing in a pageant -- and there is lots of stiff competition to even make it into the Top 15. So just being there is an achievement.

Miss North Carolina should come home with her head held high. She might not have the title, but she has earned the respect of those who have met her for her kindness, her generosity and her class.

And that is much, much more important than any crown.
