Rockets, worry: Israel's reaction to U.S. offer sign of nation's position in world

There is reason to be scared about what is beginning to look like all-out war on the Gaza Strip.

Israel is pummeling suspected militant sites, while Palestinians are launching rockets at civilian targets.

And thousands of innocents are in the crossfire.

The impetus for the attack seems to be the recent murders of three Israeli youths and the subsequent death of a Palestinian youth.

And, of course, decades upon decades of bitter battle and hatred.

The United States has offered to help negotiate a cease-fire. How surprising is it that there are no takers? Not really.

Israel has been let down by the Obama administration too many times -- and the White House's questionable handling of recent events in the Middle East has made the confidence of our supposed ally even shakier.

They don't believe we get it.

And, frankly, it looks very much like Israel has decided that decisive and aggressive action is necessary to prevent more trouble and does not feel the need to run its plans to protect its nation by an international judgment panel.

Refreshing, isn't it?

Perhaps we should consider it as a possibility for our own foreign policy.

That is unless, miraculously, diplomacy with terrorists suddenly starts to work.
