Swan song: Majesty Rose represented her community with grace

It is not easy standing on a stage in front of an audience and judges and singing.

It is even harder to be the object of criticism from armchair quarterbacks who have no idea how hard it is to push down your nerves, forget you are on television and to try to make your dreams come true.

Majesty Rose York did all that -- and more.

But the most important thing to admire about how Goldsboro's "American Idol" hopeful performed on the show -- and why she deserves this community's support even now -- is much more rare.

This young lady stayed true to herself, wasn't afraid to let people know she was a woman of faith and gave it her all every day.

She was a role model in an industry that thrives on chewing up and corrupting young performers in the pursuit of the all-mighty dollar.

She was always Majesty Rose -- and never wavered from the principles by which she lives her life.

And that is something that should make her hold her head up high as she looks ahead to what's next.

Perhaps this wasn't the path she was meant to follow. It is a hard one. But you can bet that whatever direction she chooses, this young lady will shine -- and make her community proud.
