Budget alert: As Washington starts to talk about how to use your money, beware

Most of us learned at our parents' knee that if you do not have the money, you should not spend it.

It just looks like there might be some gas in Washington that permeates the atmosphere and makes everyone there forget that bit of time-honored wisdom.

So as you listen to President Barack Obama talk about what to cut and how much to spend, remember, every increase has a cost and someone is going to have to pay for it.

It is easy to promise everything under the sun to special interest groups and to imply that there will be no consequences for American taxpayers.

That is the feel good way, the say what you need to say to get elected way.

It is also the quickest road to an unmanageable debt.

And it is a concern we need to keep very much in mind as Washington begins another budget season.
