Good news: Continued development sign that future is bright

Another week, another major announcement for the city of Goldsboro (and Wayne County) about more retail investment in the community.

And while it might seem that this area is perfect for -- and really needs -- more choices in restaurants and retail establishments, the truth is it doesn't matter what the community wants or how much residents call for a company to come to town.

They don't come unless the future is promising and the numbers add up. Companies like PetSmart and Dick's Sporting Goods do not locate anywhere until they have researched the potential for profit and the costs of doing business.

So an announcement like this is a sign that the community is headed in the right direction.

And we have to make sure that this is the continued impression that potential retail investors see when they look at this city and county.

Keeping a close eye on the leadership, the decisions that are made, and the money, are critical to keeping that reputation solid.

And with a resume like that, there is no limit to what the future could bring.
