Ready to Relay: Local teams are already raising funds to battle cancer

It might seem like it is still pretty far away -- this year's Wayne County Relay for Life. After all, the actual event is not until May.

But even though Thursday marked the official kickoff for this year's Relay, teams across the county have been busy for months.

They are doing everything from selling valentines to car washes and cupcakes, just to get as much money as possible for the cause.

Their goal is, of course, to find the dollars that are needed to fund the research that they hope will one day make all Relays for Life unnecessary.

They are fighting for a cure for cancer.

And a noble endeavor it is.

They have plenty of encouragement from not only their fellow Relay teams, but also from the hundreds of people who are battling cancer and the people in their own lives who have their own stories.

The Relay is a wonderful event, well worth attending, but don't forget to offer the teams your support now, too.

Every dollar brings us all one step closer to a cure.
