A fresh start: Coming new year is chance to make changes

2013 has been a frustrating year. People from all sides of the political aisle have argued over everything from taxes and entitlement programs to basic tenets of American life -- the definition of marriage and the rights of the individual vs. government interference.

The only constant has been that very little has been accomplished -- and many Americans are wondering just what the future will bring.

Let's hope that 2014 will be the year that people stand up for what they believe in and take an interest in their futures.

That means doing more than complaining about what is happening in Washington. It means becoming active in not only deciding who will represent you, but in what you want them to do once they get there.

Let's hope this is the year Americans speak up and stand strong and fight for the country they want to see.

It is certainly time someone did.
