Days of Caring: Register now to be part of communitywide effort

In this busy world, we don't always take the time to seek out ways to be part of the community, to help others in need.

And in so doing, we miss the chance to gain something that we all need every once in a while -- perspective.

And now, the United Way is giving all of us the chance to be a part of something bigger, to make a difference, however large or small, even if just for one week in August.

Days of Caring is an event designed to get people involved in their communities -- and to help some organizations that serve those who are in need every day.

It is easy to participate, just go to the United Way's website, choose a project and sign up or call the office at 919-735-3591.

Or, if you prefer, get a bunch of people together and do your own project -- there are certainly plenty of places around town that could use a hand.

Gathering up your own "caring crew" -- whether it be your church group, your family or your business -- could be a fun way to build morale, and to remind yourselves just how lucky you are.

It doesn't really matter what you do -- the projects do not have to be grand gestures.

What matters is that you are giving back to your community, and taking the time to care about your neighbors.

And in the meantime, you are getting that item we all find so elusive sometimes -- perspective.
