Sad testimony: Future of Michael Jackson's kids is what should matter now

The only thing sadder than hearing that pop singer Michael Jackson's daughter tried to commit suicide is seeing his eldest son testify in a civil case involving his death.

There is no question that these children are grieving -- and that they are struggling with the loss of their father so suddenly, so senselessly.

But one has to wonder why, if they are facing so much, that the rest of the family decided that now was the time to sue -- and to put them on the stand, too.

Nothing is going to bring Jackson back -- not even an astronomical wrongful death settlement.

But right now taking care of his children and helping them create new lives should be the top priority -- for all of the Jacksons.

The trial is just another tragic example of what happens when fame mixes with family -- and when the smell of money wins out over common sense.

Perhaps when the cash register rings, everyone can get back to what's important -- Prince, Paris and Blanket.
