IRS targets: Inquiry into misdeeds should get equal attention

There is much more to be written about the recent revelation that the Internal Revenue Service decided that it was OK to impede the tax-exempt status applications of conservative organizations and those that support Israel.

And one of the most interesting areas to explore is that the agency -- and, by proxy, the White House -- is blaming the actions on low-level IRS employees.

If you believe that someone in an IRS branch office decided one day to launch a campaign against conservatives and organizations that support Israel, we have some swamp land in Florida we would like to show you.

Truth is, this is a revelation that should concern every American -- especially those who believe that this should be a nation of free people who have the right to fight for and to espouse their own views.

But just in case someone out there might be thinking that this is just a mountain being made out of a mole hill and that the Republicans are just looking for something else to complain about, here's a thought.

Take all the details that have been revealed so far, write them down on a piece of paper and substitute the following words: liberal for conservative; Republican for Democratic; and President George W. Bush for President Barack Obama.

Now, what do you think the reaction in Congress -- and in the media -- would be?

That's the same reaction you should be seeing now. And if you don't, you should demand it.
