Ribbon watch: It's time to think again about the cancer fight

One week from today, thousands of Wayne County residents will gather at the county fairgrounds to join hands in the fight against cancer.

And as preparations continue for the annual Relay for Life event, many people will stop to think about not only raising money to beat cancer, but also about those who are fighting, have fought or who have lost their battles with the disease.

Relay for Life is a fun gathering of people on a mission -- to find a cure for cancer in their lifetime.

But the meaning is so much deeper than that lofty goal, as are the emotions of those who meet up each year.

And part of the reason for that is the number of people who did not make it to see another Relay.

They Relay for them and for other friends and family members they have lost to cancer.

The annual gathering is inspiring, heart-wrenching and hopeful.

And you should not miss it.
