An eye peeled: Now is the time to be vigilant about your government

It is shocking really how many people do not know what is going on in their governments.

And we are not just talking about the local and state decisions that affect them immediately almost every day, but the bigger national questions that could decide their futures.

Don't believe what politicians say -- they would rather have it quiet.

When there are too many citizens involved in decision-making, they spend a lot of time on the phone and answering questions.

Debate among themselves is much easier.

There are many issues working their way through local, state and national governments right now.

Some of them are game-changers.

Keeping track of what your legislators are doing and what they are debating -- as well as what your president and his cabinet are deciding -- is vital right now, if you want a say.

And public officials and bureaucrats do not make it easy to know what is going on.

That's why we all need to keep watch.
