Battleground: Voter identification is a cause very much worth fighting

It is absolutely unbelievable that politicians let themselves get talked out of a voter identification law.

In an age when you cannot do ANYTHING without some sort of photo identification, it seems beyond belief that anyone would say you should be able to vote without one.

The truth is that there is no legitimate reason not to check a person's identification if he or she wants to exercise the right to cast a vote.

To use the excuse that people don't come with identification or that it is intimidating to be asked for identification is simply ridiculous.

There are hundreds of times right here in this county when a driver's license or some other form of picture identification is asked for and produced.

So the only way you should be uncomfortable being asked for a picture identification is if you do not have one or have already used yours to vote somewhere else.

And for the minuscule percentage of people who simply do not have identification, cards could be made available for anyone who needed one.

It is time to put some demands on those who want the honor and privilege of participating in this nation's elections.

It is common sense, and it is nothing most people are not already used to.

Bottom line, it is time to get this done.
