Good for goose: So much for standards when there is no re-election in the offing

There are more than a few disappointments that can be associated with the administration of outgoing Gov. Beverly Perdue.

However, the most recent example is not unique to her. It is the type of double standard that drives constituents crazy -- and makes many people wonder if politicians are ever, really serving the people.

Perdue has decided to forgo the nominating committee requirement she championed to allow herself to nominate a judge.

The reason? Time. There is not enough time left to follow that standard and for Perdue to make the appointment.

So what is the solution? Simple. Toss away the committee idea and fill the slot.

And the best part is, the lame duck governor is not even trying to explain away the blatantly political move.

No wonder so many people hate politicians.

There are too many times when what is right is overshadowed by what is politically expedient. And while both sides might be guilty of instances like this, this one is just another example of it is probably a good idea to change the state's leadership every once in a while.

Obviously, the new rule is, standards are for the other guys or for election years only.
