Ready to work: It is part of recovery

You can have all the new economic policies and stimulus programs in the world, but if there are no workers to fill the jobs, you are no better off than you were before the recovery.

Getting Wayne County residents focused on acquiring the skills they need to get -- and to keep -- jobs is a critical part of positioning this community to take advantage of whatever comes next.

Whether it be a new president or a continuation of the old one, those counties that have the framework in place to take advantage of the economic recovery will be the ones who will most benefit from it.

And that means talking turkey with all those out there who want to be employed by industries in this area. They need to know what is expected by employers right here at home.

Encouraging preparation and training is what we need to keep county residents working.

And that is a focus worth keeping.
