Hurricane aid: Red Cross needs you to help them

The news is as you would expect -- thousands of Americans in the Gulf Coast are struggling to restart their lives after flood waters swept their houses and belongings away.

Some of their stories ended tragically, with the loss of a loved one, while others were bittersweet, a family safe, but its memories and its sense of safety gone.

As soon as the heavy rains and high winds stopped, the Red Cross volunteers were ready with food, supplies and hope at a time when so many did not know where to turn. And, they plan to be there for weeks to come as these communities start over.

You can feel powerless during an event like this. You want to help, but you do not know what to do, where to turn or to whom to give.

The Red Cross Disaster Fund is the answer.

The fund helps bring needed assistance to families where they live -- and is one of the first steps in getting them back on their feet.

By giving, you can be there for these families -- even if your boots are not on the ground.

The Red Cross will see to it.
