Time to care: United Way event allows residents to pick a day to help others

In this ever-busy world, very few people remember to take the time to do things for others.

It is not selfishness -- and it is not because they do not care. It is because there are just so many hours in the day.

Well, the United Way -- again, this year -- is trying to change all that.

Tomorrow is the Day of Caring across the county -- one day designated to ask residents from around the area to take the time to do something for someone else.

Sometimes the projects are large -- like building a house for Habitat for Humanity -- and sometimes they are small -- like pulling a few weeds in an elderly neighbor's garden.

But it really does not matter how big or small the effort, as long as there is an effort.

So plan now to do something for your community tomorrow -- even if it falls into the "small" category.

And while you are at it, ask your children to do the same.

We might find ourselves busier and busier these days just trying to get through the day.

But if we do not take the time to care about each other, we miss the chance to make this community even stronger.

Tomorrow is a good day to start.
