Budget watch: Keep a sharp eye peeled on local and state money, too

Admittedly, there is more national news to consider right now than usual, so it is easy to forget that there are other politicians to watch.

So, while you stew over health care, one way or the other, don't forget that your governor is about to say yes or no to a budget and there are still plenty of politicians around here looking for places to spend your tax dollars, too.

The problem with being an informed voter is that there is an awful lot to be informed about. Heck, most of those who voted on the much-disputed health care bill admitted they did not even read it.

So it is understandable if keeping track of all of this might be a little daunting.

But that makes it even more critical.

Money disappears quickly in the hands of politicians -- and so do personal freedoms, apparently.

It is up to us to make sure we know the score.
