Museum watch: Don't forget to take your chance to express your opinion

Members of the Goldsboro City Council want to know what you think about the proposed Air Force museum.

So, please, come out and tell them.

There are a couple of ways to express your opinion -- at a series of meetings now or online later. Or, if you can't manage any of the traditional methods, you can always call your council member or write a letter to the mayor.

And while you are doing so, be sure to ask for a detailed explanation of how this is going to be paid for -- although, honestly, we are not sure anyone really knows the answer to that question.

The truth remains -- even despite the relatively substantial expenditure of money to determine what the community thinks -- that this is just not the right time for a project like this.

This community respects and supports its Air Force base and the people who work there -- there is no question about that. This is not about anti-Air Force or anti-military feelings in any way, shape or form.

It is just not the right time to take on another expense, especially when there is so much else to do.

As the city begins its work to develop its downtown, it is really necessary that city leaders concentrate on that -- as well as improving services and conditions for those who live and work here.

A museum is a nice idea, but it can wait.
