A new watch: Primaries might be over, but there is much to prove

For many of those who claimed victories in Tuesday's North Carolina primary, the battle is not over yet.

And voters should make sure that those who won a chance to ask voters to support them in November are not allowed to rest on their laurels or to get ahead on a smile and a great speech.

Instead, those hopefuls need to be thinking about how they can best serve the citizens they seek to represent.

No matter whether it is a local election or a national referendum, anyone who wants voter support this fall had better have a more detailed plan than simply kissing babies.

Voters are going to be looking for specifics -- and plenty of them.

In past years, charisma has been enough to get candidates through the gate. This year, it won't get them a seat at the table.

And that is because voters are worried about their country and their future.

So, while those who won Tuesday can take a well-deserved bow for their victories, it will be time to get back to work soon.

And that is how it should be.
