Time to pray: There's nothing wrong with gathering to give thanks

Across Goldsboro Thursday, county residents paused to remember their faith and to honor it.

The National Day of Prayer offers citizens the opportunity to gather together, to think about the goodness in their lives and to join hands as they ask God for guidance and humility.

And that is a wonderful way to remind all of us that this is a nation of people of faith.

There have been many attacks over the years against those who have professed their Christian values. They become the butt of late night jokes and other snide remarks that suggest that somehow it is wrong to try to live openly as a person of faith.

The National Day of Prayer is a chance to put faith back where it belongs -- as a foundation upon which this country was built.

And that is why it is so important that so many keep gathering and this nation keeps praying.
