Gingrich out: Say what you will, he added spark

Newt Gingrich is just about at the official end of his campaign for president of the United States.

And while there are many for whom he is a lightning rod, and even more who simply do not like him, there is one thing you absolutely cannot say about the man -- that he holds back what he really thinks.

OK, so maybe he is not the first choice for president -- at least among those who want to see a little more diplomacy among parties. And perhaps his past would have gotten in the way.

But wouldn't it have been nice to see a politician whose filter was permanently turned off and who told you what he really thought, not just what he thought you wanted to hear?

Unfortunately, we will never know.

But there is something to be learned from Gingrich's presidential run. Perhaps we need to ask a little bit more from those who seek to lead us. Maybe a backbone? Or maybe truth rather than whatever it takes to get elected?

It is probably just a dream, but hearing Gingrich gives a person hope.
