County salute: Today is our annual celebration of our community

The News-Argus changed the way it does Progress editions several years ago.

The idea? There are plenty of stories out there in our community that are worth telling and that this could be a format for us to introduce you to people you might not even realize lived right next door, as well as remind you of old friends who have impacted Wayne County.

We thought there would never be a shortage of stories just like that worth telling.

And sure enough, again, this year, we found a whole bunch of them.

As you read this year's effort, "Looking back. Leaping forward," we hope you will realize what we relearn every year during the production of our Progress edition and every day as we bring you an edition of The News-Argus.

This is a wonderful community with much history that is full of good people doing great things.

There is something for everyone in this year's edition, from Jimmy Aycock, Wayne County's Piano Man, to a group of students from the Wayne School of Engineering who are working with younger students to help them achieve their dreams.

You can also meet our new wing commander and look back to the beginnings of one of the most successful businesses in this county.

We hope you will enjoy reading their stories as much as we enjoyed telling them.

And, of course, Happy Leap Day!
