Hint of progress: It might be premature, but any news is good news for county

You can decide whether or not the supermarket chain Harris Teeter is or isn't going to come to Goldsboro.

But even if the announcement is premature, the rumor is good news for the city in specific and the county in general.

And we need more of it.

If Wayne County is going to continue to grow and to become more prosperous -- meaning bring more residential and business investment to this community -- we need all kinds of announcements like this.

So the fact that we know an Olive Garden is coming -- and there is the possibility that there might be another grocery store -- is a sign that there might be more than a little reason to be optimistic.

In this competitive business environment, it is good news when anyone announces opening anything anywhere. So to be even in the mix is a sign that investors see the potential for growth in this community.

And that is good news for property owners and anyone else whose future is tied to the success of this county.

Let's hope 2012 brings a whole lot more rumors and a few announcements, too.
