Helping others: Don't forget there are still needy this holiday season and beyond

Black Friday put a surge into the Christmas shopping season -- it almost always does.

But along with the thrill of getting a TV at half-price comes the need to remember that there are still plenty of Wayne County residents struggling to make ends meet.

We all need to make sure that we do not get so caught up in Christmas that we forget the reason for the season -- and the obligations that go along with having a good year ourselves.

So, when you pass a Salvation Army kettle, or read about the number of children who need help with the Empty Stocking Fund, give if you can -- even if it means that, perhaps, a small item is cut out of your own Christmas list.

It will make you feel better -- and it will make a dream come true for a needy family.

There are many new names on the needy rolls this year. It has been tough for many families.

A gift, no matter how small, shows them that there is hope -- even when the situation is dire.

This community never forgets to care for its neighbors. We are certain Wayne County residents will remember again this year, when there are so many who need them.
