We need you: It is going to be a tough year

You come through every year, but this year, we know, it is going to be tough.

The Empty Stocking Fund organizers are aware that there is more need this year -- and that there are children on the list who might never have been there before. So, it is critical that we take care of as many as possible.

We also know that this has been a hard year for many Wayne County families who are facing tighter budgets with less wiggle room than ever before.

So, we ask, give what you can. We appreciate everything all of you do to help us make Christmas bright for the county's needy children.

Please know, we can't do it without you.

There are plenty of families who have been scrimping and saving just to get through the days -- and who have been setting aside funds to provide Christmas for their own children. We understand that.

But consider, if you have a little extra, adding a needy child's gift to that list this year. Give it as a family gift -- and put a special ornament on your tree to mark the occasion.

It will remind you as you scurry around trying to get your holiday work accomplished that there is more to Christmas than just presents under a tree.

And think of the joy you will bring to a child for whom, otherwise, Dec. 25 would be just another day.

Thank you in advance for your decades of generosity. We never take it for granted.
